Houston Zoo Guest Services provides a variety of amenities and guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable visit for all guests. From security checks to food and beverage options, the Zoo’s guest services team is dedicated to making your experience unforgettable.
Safety Precautions
Ensuring the safety of both visitors and animals is a top priority at the Houston Zoo. All guests are required to undergo a security check upon entry, where they are asked to leave certain items behind, such as glass containers, weapons, alcohol, bikes, scooters, skates, and skateboards, as well as radios, whistles, and inflatable objects.
The Zoo also has a strict policy regarding service animals. While service animals are welcome, guests must register them at the Safety and Security window. Emotional support animals, assistance animals, or companion animals are not allowed on the premises.
Prohibited Items
To maintain the comfort, safety, and preservation of the exhibits, the Houston Zoo has specific guidelines regarding prohibited items. In the Galápagos Islands exhibit, for example, strollers, wagons, and coolers are not permitted.
Additionally, the following items are not allowed on Zoo grounds:
- Glass containers
- Weapons
- Alcohol
- Bikes
- Scooters
- Skates and skateboards
- Rollerblades
- Radios/CD players
- Whistles
- Inflatable objects

Guests are welcome to bring their own outside food and non-alcoholic beverages to the Houston Zoo. The Zoo also offers multiple food and beverage locations along the path, accepting both cash and credit cards.
Accessibility and Rentals
The Houston Zoo is committed to providing an accessible experience for all visitors. Wheelchair and motorized scooter rentals are available, with a $5 discount for members on the motorized scooter rentals. Operators of the motorized scooters must be 18 years old or older.
