Exploring the Wonders of Brookfield Zoo’s Fragile Kingdom

The Brookfield Zoo’s Fragile Kingdom is a captivating exhibit that showcases a diverse array of animal species, from the elusive clouded leopard to the majestic hippo. This unique exhibit is designed to provide visitors with an immersive experience, allowing them to explore the delicate balance of life in some of the world’s most fragile ecosystems.

Exhibits and Habitats

The Fragile Kingdom is home to a variety of exhibits and habitats, each designed to mimic the natural environments of the animals that call it home.

Clouded Leopard Rain Forest

One of the standout exhibits in the Fragile Kingdom is the Clouded Leopard Rain Forest. This exhibit features a lush, tropical environment that is home to a variety of reptiles from Asia, including the Mandarin Trinket Snake and the Tentacled Snake. The exhibit is equipped with heat lamps and other heat sources to ensure that the reptiles can regulate their body temperature, and the exhibits are regularly rearranged to keep the animals active and engaged.

Other Habitats

In addition to the Clouded Leopard Rain Forest, the Fragile Kingdom also features habitats for other animals, including cats, bears, hippos, and dolphins. Each of these habitats is designed to mimic the natural environments of the animals, providing them with the resources and stimulation they need to thrive.

Original Purpose of the Building

Brookfield Zoo Fragile Kingdom

The Fragile Kingdom is housed in the old lion house, which has been converted to accommodate the indoor exhibits and habitats. This repurposing of the existing building is a testament to the zoo’s commitment to sustainability and efficient use of resources.

Renovations and Improvements

In recent years, the Brookfield Zoo has partnered with Featherstone Inc. to improve the existing animal containment areas and construct new secondary containment and holding areas within the Fragile Kingdom. This project, which had a budget of $1,200,000, included upgrades to the water quality and air filtration systems in the Fragile Kingdom Building and the Seven Seas Amphitheater.
